Robert Mallet Stevens, ‘Model 222' Chair, Ecart International, France
H90 W43 D52cm
French modernist architect and designer, Robert Mallet-Stevens, designed this side chair for the villa of M. Cavrois, in Croix near Lille, in 1932.
This chair embodies his vision that all furniture should be functional in terms of contemporary living, simple, and suitable for mass production.
The interior designer Andrée Putman, who in 1978 created Ecart International, began reissuing rare pieces from the 1930s-1940s, leading to the reemergence of the chair. The chair she reissued was based on the Villa Cavrois model and came in various colours, including black and white.
