Kartell has reintroduced the iconic ‘4801’ armchair, originally designed in 1963/1964, after a nearly fifty-year hiatus. Renowned for its unique Space Age aesthetic, the original ‘4801’ chair was crafted from bent pressed plywood with a frameless design and painted in era-specific hues of white, green, orange, and black.
Due to technological limitations of the 1960s, it was produced in limited numbers. Today, Kartell has revisited this groundbreaking design with advanced industrial molding technologies. This contemporary example is available in this sleek transparent plastic (PMMA), faithfully capturing Colombo’s sinuous lines and exact proportions.
It has been displayed at renowned museums such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
