Bartoli, a graduate in architecture from the Polytechnic, Milano, established his own firm in 1959. His 'Gaia' armchair for Arflex holds a distinguished place in the permanent collections of Italian design at both the MoMA in New York City and the Triennale in Milan. Similarly, his '4875' chair for Kartell is showcased in the permanent collection of the Musée National d'Art Moderne at the Centre Pompidou in Paris.

However, his 'Down' sofa designs for Rossi Di Albizzate celebrate the seventies. The squishy, creamy leather and sultry silhouette capture an Italian era.

This rare version is in its original leather and has small signs of age on the lacquered wooden arms.
