Andries Van Onck and Kazuma Yamaguchi, "Cricket" Chairs, Magis, Italy, 1983
H55/37 W90 D30cm
Born in Amsterdam in 1928, Andries Van Onck studied industrial design in Holland before furthering his education at the Hochschule Für Gestaltung in Ulm under the guidance of Tomas Maldonado, Walter Zeischegg, and Max Bill. He moved to Italy in 1959, where he worked with renowned designer Ettore Sottsass.
The Cricket folding chair was a collaborative creation with Kazuma Yamaguchi in 1983. This chair brings together simple geometric figures—a circle, a colored oval, and various black orthogonal lines—achieving a harmonious design through its folding mechanism.
The chair is made from metal and black plastic and is marked. It is also part of the permanent collection at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
